SALUTEMUS provided an eclectic mix of Hunting Songs, dances and Christmas carols for the Selwood Foundation Christmas party at Manor House stables in Nunney. The programme included a song by Sir Richard Paget who lived at nearby Cranmore Hall and was a personal friend of the Pickthorn family who hosted the party.
All the hunting songs and dances were specially arranged for the event from manuscripts in the British Library and included a song that had been sung by T R Snow, 'an old man of Exeter in deep decline'. The singers were accompanied by a band of violin, clarinet and bassoon adding a charming rustic charm to the event. A cup of venison stew and a glass of warm mulled cider together with the traditional lettuce and marmite sandwiches all made for a very pleasant glimpse into the past.
