SALUTEMUS is
presenting a programme of Palm Court Trios, music from the Grand Hotel era, in
Wanstrow Village Hall on Saturday 2nd March at 7.00pm. with Adam
Sealey (violin) David Ellery (cello) and Paul Dowbekin (piano)
In the days
before piped music, the proliferation of radio channels and the emergence of
the iPod live music was the order of the day. Hotels would have small chamber
groups on hand to provide background music to mask the hushed conversations
about how difficult it was to find a decent butler or lady’s maid, or the
latest scandal about the Prince of Wales. These so-called Palm Court ensembles
would play the melodies of the day; popular songs, operatic arias, the newest
symphonies as well as the well-known and loved classics.
Pieces to be performed
will include a Brahms ‘Hungarian Dance’, Gade’s ‘Jealousy’, Ancliffe’s ‘Down in
Zanzibar’ and Adler’s ‘Hernando’s Hideaway’ as well as many other
favourites.
Tickets cost £10 and will be available on the door or
in advance from SALUTEUMUS or from 01749 850229.
